Muramoto Downtown
Dinner was excellent at Muramoto last night! Three of us shared the Poke appetizer which was sweet from barbecue sauce, but not too sweet for me. Very fresh tuna, ikura, seaweed, and other good stuff made for a pleasing texture and great taste.
Entrees we shared included Tarantula (tempura cooked soft-shell crab, avocado, black roe), Ecuador (I forgot what’s in it - tuna?), and Black Cod (perfectly browned on the outside, tender inside). All three very well presented (shoulda taken a pic) and delicious. Desert was a caramel flan served in a small Mason jar, which one dining mate calls shit in a jar. Good shit!
I didn’t notice our server’s name but she, too, did a fine job.
Last but first, we went there hoping to get in at Downtown Muramoto after discovering our reservation at Red was mistakenly made for a different night - and the wait at Red was an hour Past experience Red’s is that we seldom wait that long even when that’s the call, so possibly could have gotten a table in much shorter time. Red is the other high-end sushi restaurant in Madison. Anyway, Muramoto without reservation: it was crowded when we arrived and no one was optimistic it would be anything faster than the stated wait at Red. Somehow the host made a table for 4 for 3 right away. Magic! Or maybe they recognized us as frequent diners at both of there restaurants (the other Muramoto at upscale Hilldale is also very nice). We tend to be a distinctive looking group because one friend is a distinctive woman often mistaken for a supermodel or actress - sometimes it seems that everyone wants to combine their gene pool with hers.
Whatever!
REALLY lastly, a man who sat at the table next to us (with an apparently much younger woman that would make him a sugar-daddy if she was his date), spotted a hoodie I left behind as we left. He ran out to give it to me, which was incredibly nice!! Normally, I’m jealous of sugar daddies because they remind me of personal loss, but this guy really was good to save one of my favorite sweatshirts. Way to go sugar-daddy-man!

WhyNot whine about wine ˈwī-nər?
This blog, “WhineDine”, a play on words thought up by my friend Marina, is intended to be a place where I can rant. My buddies and I dine out a lot and I complain a lot about these experiences. Sometimes I have nice things to say about them, too. I whine frequently in general. Plus I enjoy the occasional intoxicating beverage - including wine. Lastly, my last name is pronounced ˈwī-nər!
